Lawn bowling prize money finally spent October 16, 2007

Filed under: Craftwork,Crochet,Knitting,Lawn bowling,Music,Recorders,Weaving — Janet @ 4:49 pm

I had a very good season  of lawn bowling and even had some prize money from the Leinster-Crumlin week in early August.  I decided to set the money aside and use it for something special.  In late August I had my music week at Termonfeckin – the Irish Recorder and Viols Course.  That was such a good week, I decided that I would use my prize money for the purchase of a bass recorder.  And today the new recorder arrived.

I’m delighted!  We have a big recorder playing weekend coming up and I hope I can play it at some point over the weekend.

As for knitting news, here is the eccentric blanket, which the other resident photographer in the family has labelled “latest weird rug”.

latest-strange-rug.jpg  I am using all sorts of bits and pieces from my stash – it is a stash reduction project – in this case the stash consists of pieces of knitting and crochet, and even a bit of weaving.

Wow, Janet that is quite the recorder. I’ve never seen a bass recorder before. Very impressive. How similar is to an alto recorder in terms of ease of play? Is there much difference in how you play it? How exciting! Congratulations again on the bowling and what a wonderful way to use the prize money. I do hope you get to play it over the weekend. Btw, what is this big recorder weekend coming up?
    Love

Oops, forgot to say a word on the blanket. I love how the eccentric blanket is coming along. It looks great on the bed. I imagine the other resident photographer meant it with a great deal of love when he labeled it the “latest weird rug”!?

Wow, that’s a big recorder! And congratulations at doing so well at lawn bowling.

I bet that sounds absolutely gorgeous! I play flutes myself, and adore my low whistle in D for the soft, low sound, but bet it isn’t a patch on this big recorder. What a great way to spend your prize!

The new recorder is going to be tried out at my lesson tomorrow. (Now that my recorder teacher has recovered from a recent bout of salmonella poisoning! -talk about being ill – she thought she was having a reaction to a round of anti-biotics which she had taken as a precaution against getting pneumonia.) This weekend our Irish Branch of the Society of Recorder Players is having a guest conductor for 2 days of recorder playing. All day Saturday and a half day on Sunday.

I can play the bass recorder, it is the 4th lowest recorder and it is inthe key of F and reads in bass clef.

    Blow it Janet!
    Love that Bass
