It has just dawned on me that with the Winter Solstice 2017 and Christmas 2017 behind us, it is almost time for tennis and the first of the Grand Slams, the Australian Open 2018. And what do I see in the sports pages of the newspaper? – football, football, football. Well the Seahawks Might make it to the Playoffs – let’s hope so! There is excitement yet.

Waiting For The Big Match January 29, 2017
Waiting for the big match tonight between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open Tennis Championship. This will be played at a reasonable time in Melbourne but rather late for us on the West Coast of North America. I stayed up for the William sisters final at midnight last night. I was disappointed that Venus lost but Serena certainly deserved her win. Exciting times
the next morning – WHAT A MATCH! – it went down to the wire in 5 sets. My hero emerged victorious. Spoiler alert – Roger was the worthy winner. Rafael Nadal didn’t deserve to lose, but he did. Tightly fought all the way.
I could hardly put down my knitting as the match seesawed back and forth. I thought that the woman sitting behind Roger’s wife was knitting also but when I got a better look I decided what I thought might be knitting was a set of worry beads. My current knitting shown on the right below is quite uninteresting compared with the tennis.
p.s. Katerina couldn’t bear the excitement and meowed to go out halfway through the 5th set.

Spoiled For Choice July 4, 2016
Do I watch Wimbledon or the Tour de France? Exciting days on the Tour and now at Wimbledon Andy Murray is about to play Nick Kyrios from Australia. Mark Cavendish’s winning sprint finish today was fantastic. It doesn’t get any closer than that. I find that Serena had a convincing win in her match. Now let’s root for Andy Murray.
